Big Bang’s first debut was held on August 19, 2006 at the Gymnastics Arena in Seoul Olympic Park during the YG Family 10th Year Concert
Before Big Bang had debut ( in 2006 ) , several of the members had already been in YG Entertaiment, they are G- Dragon and Taeyang who were famous being called GDYB ( G-Dragon and Young Bae ). They have been in YG since 11 to 12 y.o. They were actors and models there. They were first introduced to the company when they were chosen to act as the younger version of Jinusean on the music video of their 2001 hit track A-YO. After the shooting of the music video, they both decided to join YG Entertainment since they both have passion for hip hop and RnB. The two debuted under the group name GDYB, and released two tracks under YG Family album. However, they did not release an album of their own. One well-known piece of theirs is “Unfold to Higher Place”, which features fellow labelmates Perry and Gummy The duo was also featured in other YG artists’ albums, such as Wheesung, Gummy, Perry, Masta Wu, and Se7en. As a rapper, G-Dragon also participated in the activities of YG Family, a group which consisted of 1TYM, Perry, Masta Wu, Jinusean, Se7en and Gummy at that time. Although Taeyang was first trained to be a rapper, he quickly switched to being a vocalist after hearing that YG Entertainment needed a singer for Big Bang’s later debut. Both G-Dragon and Taeyang did cameos in and out of the agency’s activities together until their final debut with Big Bang.
T.O.P was an underground rapperunder the stage name Tempo. One of his most popular track was Buckwild with NBK Gray. G-Dragon contacted T.O.P when YG Entertainment was scouting for candidates to create a boy group. The pair recorded several demos and sent them to Yang Hyunsuk, CEO of YG Entertainment, who later asked T.O.P to audition. However, he was rejected by the record label as he was deemed too “chubby” to fit the “idealistic version” of an idol. However, six months later, he was recruited after losing weight.
SeungRi was a leader of a local dance team in his hometown, Gwangju. He pursued entering the entertainment world as he first appeared on television in the reality television series Let’s Cokeplay: Mnet Battle Shinhwa, a show in which Shinhwa attempted to create a boy band that could be a “second-generation Shinhwa”. Although his dancing skills were great, his lack of vocal skills did not charm the panel and led to his elimination on the show’s thirteenth episode. He then auditioned for YG Entertainment and was later scouted to be a potential member for Big Bang, but in the filming of the group’s documentary series, his position was jeopardized for his stage presence was not attractive enough. In order to make into the cut, Seungri had to prove himself worthy in one last performance battle against another trainee, So-1. He was able to impress CEO Yang Hyun-suk with his improved skills and finally made the cut to be a part of Big Bang in the last episode. So-1 was cut off and later debuted as Jang Hyunseung for BEAST under Cube Entertaiment
Daesung was recruited in an audition. Although he often gets picked on as the “unpretty boy” among the staff, he is well-known for his strong singing ability. He was trained under Wheesung’s supervision. Before the debut of Big Bang, he was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules, caused by strain on the vocal cords, which is common among singers.
